Who I am
Hello! This is me in the photo. My name is Aristi, and I am Greek. Nice to meet you! :) I have spent the past thirty or so years studying literature, beginning with a BA in English Language and Literature and an MA in Literary Theory at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, followed by a postgraduate certificate in Open and Distance Education and a PhD in Comparative Literature, which I began at UCLA and completed at King’s College London.
All those years of studying literature have trained my brain to spot patterns, make connections, and think comparatively across all kinds of texts—not just books. I find myself drawing connections between classical literature, TV series, movies, news stories, and even children’s songs. I can’t help it; this is just how my brain works! I draw on different critical approaches, particularly feminist criticism, deconstruction, cultural materialism, and structuralism, but what really interests me is using these ideas as tools to look beneath the surface—to notice patterns, question assumptions, and discover what a text might be saying beyond the obvious. That’s what I’d like to share here: the pleasure of slowing down, paying attention, and discovering more in the books we read. So, if that sounds like your kind of reading, join me for the journey!

Perfect. The Subtext of Power assumes no prior knowledge. I teach the framework from the ground up.

No. I'll send one email per week with close reading insights (plus occasional updates on the course). You can unsubscribe anytime.
Q: Is it a live lesson?
No. The videos are prerecorded and you study at your own pace. However, there is a Chat/Discussion section, where you can interact with me and other members!
